What Is Seroflo Inhaler 50 Mcg?

Seroflo 50 is a combination inhaler primarily used for the long-term management of Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It is manufactured by Cipla and is designed to prevent symptoms rather than treat immediate, acute breathing emergencies.

Key Information

Manufacturer: Cipla Ltd.

Composition: Salmetrol Formoterol Fumarate

Use: Signs of COPD and asthma.

Dosage: 50 mcg pill, taken 1-2 times daily based on the severity and type of disorder.

Uses

  • Management of Asthma

Seroflo is used to prevent the symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness.

  • Management of COPD

Improving Airflow: Keeping the airways open consistently over 12 hours.

Reducing Flare-ups: Decreasing the frequency and severity of “exacerbations” (episodes where breathing suddenly gets much worse).

How It Works

Seroflo 50 works through a dual-action mechanism that addresses the two main components of asthma and COPD: inflammation and bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the airways).

It travels deep into the small air passages and enters the cells. Once inside, it inhibits the release of chemicals (like histamines and leukotrienes) that cause swelling and mucus production.

How To Use

  • Shake the inhaler vigorously for 5 seconds. This mixes the medicine with the propellant.
  • If the inhaler is brand new, spray 4 puffs into the air away from your face.
  • If you haven’t used it for 7 days or more, spray 2 puffs into the air to ensure the next dose is accurate.
  • Breathe out as much air as you can, away from the inhaler.
  • Hold the inhaler upright.
  • Place the mouthpiece between your teeth and close your lips tightly around it.
  • Start to breathe in slowly and deeply.
  • Just after you start inhaling, press down firmly once on the top of the canister.
  • Continue the deep breath until your lungs are full. Remove the inhaler and hold your breath for 5–10 seconds.

Dosage

For Mild Asthma Issues

Use it once daily and take a couple of puffs from it or as given by your doctor.

For Severe Asthma Issues

In case you have asthma or signs of COPD more than once every day, the doctors will tell you to use the inhaler 2 to 3 times per day and slowly reduce its use over time.

Use For Older People

At a high age, the use of the Seroflo inhaler 50 mcg is risky because older people generally suffer from other health issues. However, there is also a maximum age limit to use the inhaler, which is 64 years.

Dose For Children

After studies, the FDA has assigned the minimum age for anyone to use the inhaler at least 18 years.

Missed Dose

Unless you use the inhaler, you may start suffering from asthma symptoms again. One way to get rid of your missed dose is to form a habit to start using the inhaler at the same time each day.

Overdose

In case you overuse the inhaler, the dose of excess Salmetrol can instantly make you feel drowsy, have a headache, and blurred vision, along with many other issues.
